      FOSPOR Sensor Formulation

The FOSPOR coating is applied to the distal end of the fiber and has a fluorescence-based Pt-porphyrin indicator. The sensor uses fluorescence quenching of the porphyrin to measure the partial pressure of dissolved or gaseous oxygen. The FOSPOR coating can be applied to substrates other than fibers and probes and used for applications such as through-packaging measurements in the food and pharmaceutical industries. *Please contact an Applications Scientist before specifying FOSPOR or other coatings.

      Choosing a Probe
Once you choose the best Sensor Coating Formulation for your application, you need to select the fiber optic probe onto which the sensor coating is applied. For a list of fiber optic probes, click here.

      FOSPOR Coating Specifications

      Specification
Principle Photoluminescence-quenching using Pt compound. Measures O2 partial pressure.
Sensor mechanism Phase shift due to change in partial pressure of O2
Applications Low O2 (0–5%), vacuum systems packaging, benign environment
      Time-constant (µsec) dynamic range Air: 10.00; N2: 50.00; Low: 3.00, High: 70.00
Accuracy: (0–20% O2, 0–50ºC) <5% of reading (using polynomial fit to multipoint calibration)
Response time of probe with no overcoat <30-60 seconds in gas, 60-90 seconds in liquid
Response time of dissolved oxygen in liquid (with overcoat) 30-45 seconds
Response time of probe with Overcoat of Oxygen Gas (at 1 atmosphere) 60-120 seconds
Dynamic range of Dissolved Oxygen in liquid 0–4.1 ppm; 0–75 mm Hg partial pressure
Dynamic range of Oxygen Gas (at 1 atmosphere) 0–<10% (mole percent); 0–760 mm Hg partial pressure
Stability Dissolved Oxygen in liquid Drift < 0.00008 ppm O2 per hour at low dissolved oxygen; Drift ~ 0.006 ppm O2 per hour in air-saturated water
Stability Oxygen Gas (at 1 atmosphere) Drift ~ 0.0002% O2 drift per hour at low O2; Drift ~ 0.015% O2 per hour air
Resolution of Dissolved Oxygen in liquid 0.002 ppm at room temperature
Resolution of Oxygen Gas (at 1 atmosphere) 0.005% at room temperature
